Hey guys. You're currently reading the first ever Required Knowledge blog post. This is history in the making. I hope you're as pumped as I am.
Let me give y'all a rundown of what exactly Required Knowledge is and what I hope it will become down the road.
A few months ago, as I was playing NBA2k in my college dorm, skipping my third class of the day, and coming to the inevitable realization that my life was about to become a hell of a lot more boring once I graduated, I came up with a pretty cool, if somewhat unoriginal, idea: start the next Barstool.
I'm sure that exact same thought has come across the minds of thousands of lazy 20-somethings who spend most of their time sports gambling and debating their friends on the best Subway order. And for that reason alone, I wouldn't blame you for believing I'm destined to fail.
Here's the catch: Required Knowledge isn't going to be the next Barstool. It's gonna be the better Barstool. I want to build a digital media network that creates high quality content for everyone, not just guys like me who love sports and dumb humor. This platform is going to appeal to the movie buff, the foodie, the globetrotter, the analytics nerd, the gossip girl, the dad who loves gardening, the mom who patrols the stock market, etc.
You name the person, we'll have them covered with awesome content to suit their wants and needs. That's the plan.
You're probably thinking to yourself, "Cool concept, but a little ambitious for a lug like Will Manzi to pull off." That's why I've got an amazing team of passionate and hugely capable beasts on my side that have been instrumental in getting this thing up and running. We're a small group but we've got plenty of grit to go around. I promise we're gonna turn this dream into a reality.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks as Required Knowledge launches a little bit at a time; blogs, podcasts, YouTube videos, and TikToks are all coming your way, and more.
Join our mailing list and follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to stay in the loop. We can't wait for you to join us on this journey.
One last thing - you might be wondering how the hell we came up with "Required Knowledge." Well, it's actually pretty simple. The name embodies our philosophy that people want fact-based content made by "experts" that don't take themselves or their opinions too seriously. When you're consuming our stuff, we want you to feel like you're having a good conversation: informative, funny, and non-patronizing.
If we can accomplish that, I think this might just work.
Thanks for reading and spread the word!
